FAQ

When are the blueberries ready to be picked?

A typical season usually lasts 4-6 weeks, with picking starting in late June and ending by the first week of August.

How do I know if a blueberry is ready to be picked?

We recommend looking for blueberries that are firm, dry, plump, smooth-skinned and relatively free from leaves and stems.  Please know that the size of the blueberry isn’t an indicator of its maturity. Its color is the best indicator. The blueberries should be a deep purple-blue to blue-black.  Blueberries that have a pink tint to them are still ripening and aren’t quite ready yet.

Should the blueberries be washed prior to eating?

It’s a personal choice but we do since the blueberries are exposed to environmental things like dirt and birds.  If you decide to freeze your berries, please make sure they are completely dry prior to freezing, or simply rinse once you’re ready to use the frozen berries.

Should I bring my own bucket?

We provide buckets for you to pick, but you should bring something to take your blueberries home in like a large bowl or a box

Are children allowed to pick?

Yes, we love seeing families share the same experience and memories our family has picking blueberries.  We simply ask that parents stay with their children at all times.

What should we wear?

Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes, like boots or sneakers.  We also recommend sunscreen and a hat or visor to provide some shade on your face.

Is there a bathroom?

Yes, there’s a porta-potty on site for use.

What are your hours?

Hours vary daily depending upon the number of ripe blueberries and the weather.  Check our Facebook page for the most up-to-date information, or call and listen to our daily recording with the hours and picking schedule.

Do you accept credit cards?

At this time, Martin Blueberries only accepts cash, but we’re working on accepting credit card payments soon.

Do you have pre-picked blueberries?

Yes.  If you plan on purchasing more than five pounds, please email or call ahead so your order can be filled prior to pick-up.  Allow for one day for the order to be fulfilled prior to pickup.
